Hell yes, I’m obliged to divide this fantastic trip we did in 4 parts, because there are so many things to tell! Do I try it in English? Okay, let’s go!
Friday 18th of July: 4 days off because the University is closed (sooo sad). Let’s rent a car! We left Glasgow around 10am, Aline driving for the first time in UK in a fabulous car Chevrolet Matiz (yes that’s possible). First stop: Doune castle, where the Monty Python Holy Grail was made. We couldn’t miss to re-do the scene where a cow is thrown against King Arthur by the French guards.
Then, small stop in Ewan Mc Gregor birthplace , Crieff. And after that, road to Pitlochry (where we had a wonderful hot chocolate during the castle trip, do you remember?) where we tried the tastiest caramel shortbread ever!
The weather wasn’t so good (as you can see on Queen’s view pictures) and we had more than 500 km to cover in a day, so the sightseeing was quick. Anyway, we tried to have a look at the famous Queen’s view over Loch Tummel… Normally it would have been stunning like that. But we had that.
The following hours were made of driving, listenning to music until our arrival in Inverness (around 7:30pm). Okay, let’s see: “we want to be in Durness overnight but even the sunset occurs at 10/10:30pm, we won’t make it”. Hopefully, we didn’t book any hostel, as we wanted to sleep in the car! After a small tour of the town under the rain, an indian food and a coffee, we went to the famous and unmissable Loch Ness. Unmissable… I would say that I’ve already seen better. Basically, it’s just a lake you know! We saw Nessie (for the big fans, it’s here and here; for the others, there and other
pages, I let you search), we nicknamed our car like that as well and we saw Urquhart castle (under the rain, sure).
Ow! But it’s getting late! Hurry up, we need to go to the East coast, and find a camping to sleep (after getting lost in Inverness to find fuel, because tomorrow the road to the
North will be really… empty)! That’s what we did in Dornoch, small village, nice, but at 11pm, it’s not the time for tourism. Tomorrow morning, maybe!
That’s the end of our first day: rainy, roady, nessy. Nice but that’s just the beginning! Be prepared for the best part(s)!
Pics here!
Quand tu dis “re-do the scene where a cow is thrown against King Arthur by the French guards”, vous avez vraiment balancé une vache ?
oui! enfin non, c’est des effets très spéciaux avec un porte-clé vache (je te le montrerai à la rentrée!)
